Hallo-whore…

A little delayed this post… but still relevant comment on the poor state of affairs for sexual equality and just randomness of online shopping…

Question of the week: Why do nearly all Ebay dressing up costumes come with G-strings?

Seriously, check it out if you don’t believe me. Take my mermaid costume from last year, shipped from China, complete with a sequinned blue thong.

I had to search high and low to find a Bavarian Oktoberfest outfit that didn’t include these extras, maybe it was the search terms “bavarian wench” but still, when did dressing up become about looking as whorish as possible?

I used to do scary Halloween. Fangs. Blood. Gothic. Face paint.

Maybe not crazy scary…but Mean Girls perfectly summarises Halloween once you get past your early teens…

It seems not only acceptable to dress as a slut but expected. My housemate went as Alice in Wonderland and didn’t try her dress on until the night we were going out (a belated November 1st). Warning girls never do this, always check those one-size-fits-all because my housemate is slim, petite and yet it barely skimmed her thighs. Alice in Fumbleland more like! Considering myself in it, at a few inches taller, and I shudder…where are these clothes being made? Are we foolishly buying childrens’ clothes (and if so the morality of slutty nurses’ outfits becomes much darker and more worrying) but really, what has happened to Halloween.

I am all for showing some leg… adhering to the leg or breast rule and having a good time. But Halloween should also about embracing the gory and at least having a go at faking some slits down your throat.

karen_0If no-one knows who you’re attempting to be OR you are wearing just your underwear and Accessorise ears OR your outfit came complete with G-string and whip…

then you’ve gone too far. May I suggest this for next year …
